The Fall meeting of the Northeastern section has a strong emphasis on student engagement. There are opportunities to give presentations on undergraduate research, the ever-popular Collegiate Math Competition, speakers who have been selected for their strength in giving accessible presentations to undergraduate math majors, and opportunities to network (or just chat) with mathematicians from all over the Northeast!

Invited Speakers

Colin Adams Williams College

Colin Adams is the Francis Christopher Oakley Third Century Professor of Mathematics at Williams College where he has been since 1985. He has written 9 books, dozens of research publications and is a Haimo award-winning teacher.

Younhee Lee Southern Connecticut State University

Younhee Lee is an Associate Professor in the Mathematics Department at Southern Connecticut State University, where she has been since 2019. She is a mathematics educator who is deeply interested in issues related to connecting school and collegiate mathematics.

Steven J. Miller Williams College

Steven Joel Miller is a mathematician who specializes in analytic number theory and has also worked in applied fields such as sabermetrics and linear programming. He is currently a professor at Williams College where he serves as director of the Williams SMALL REU program. He is also one of the founders of the Polymath REU program.

Lauren Sager University of New Hampshire

Lauren Sager is a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New Hampshire. Her research involves Operator Algebras and Mathematics Education.

Javier Gomez Serrano Brown University

Javier Gomez Serrano is this year’s Christie Lecturer. He is a Professor of Mathematics at Brown University. He has previously served on the faculties of the University of Barcelona and Princeton. His research interests are on the boundary between machine learning, analysis, pdes, fluid mechanics, spectral geometry, numerical computation and rigorous computer-assisted proofs.
